Magnepan’s story began in 1969, when engineer and music enthusiast Jim Winey invented the Magneplanar—a thin-film magnetic alternative to the electrostatic loudspeakers he admired. His breakthrough replaced conventional cones and cabinets with an ultra-light diaphragm, creating a more immediate, spacious and natural approach to music reproduction.
From its first groundbreaking designs to today’s planar magnetic, quasi-ribbon and true-ribbon loudspeakers, Magnepan has remained devoted to the principles that defined the company from the beginning: innovation, musical realism and exceptional value.
